This is a shortish post that aims to give a bit of perspective to those of us who are ignorant of emerging technological gadgetry.
Ok then, for this post I’d like you to watch the video clip first and then see what I have to say.
Cute isn’t it? I’m in my mid-thirties and I remember most of those things from my childhood. It seems impossible that things have moved on so quickly that those items are so alien to children that they have absolutely no idea what they are.
Now, here’s the thing… this is what you look like when someone puts an iPhone in your hand and you don’t know how to switch it on. This is how you sound when you tell people that you don’t need to know about the new gadgets that you see your students using on a daily basis.
The moral of this post…
The kids in this video have an excuse, you don’t!

You say it like it’s always a bad thing. What I think all protagonists need to consider above knowing how to operate an iphone is whether or not the way it’s being used in classes is any more effective than using more traditional methods. I’m not against technology as you can guess but it shouldn’t be embraced merely for its own sake.

You’re welcome. Thanks for the continuing RTs.
Thanks for that, Alex. I agree with you that technology as a means to an end is probably not a great idea, but there’s no harm in keeping with the times.
Just before discıovering this post a few of my colleagues and I were investigating an iPhone that a student had left in a room after an exam and after a couple of minutes fumbling someone realised that it was in fact switched off. This video clip was so reminiscent of what we’d been doing that I felt shocked.
